Beard-a-Thon: Because Only in Denton Would This Make Perfect Sense

If you know Friends With Benefits, you know we're all about throwing unforgettable events that raise money for incredible nonprofits.
But if you really know Friends With Benefits, you also know we can't resist an idea that's a little quirky, a little unexpected, and completely, unapologetically Denton.
Enter Beard-a-Thon.
The idea started the way many of our favorite events do — with a conversation between our Board of Directors and our friends at The Bearded Monk. Someone joked about celebrating Denton's legendary facial hair. Someone else wondered what would happen if people competed to grow the best beard... for charity. Before long, the joke turned into an event, and Beard-a-Thon was born.
For weeks, participants committed to growing, grooming, and showing off their beards while raising donations along the way. Then came the grand finale at The Bearded Monk, where competitors took the stage to be judged on everything from glorious full beards to the most creative facial hair, all while supporters cheered them on with a drink in hand.
Was it ridiculous?
Absolutely.
Did it perfectly capture the spirit of Denton?
Without question.
Because that's the thing about Friends With Benefits. We believe fundraising doesn't have to feel like fundraising. Sometimes the best way to bring a community together is through something unexpected—whether that's a drag show, an Oktoberfest 5K, or an entire competition centered around facial hair.
Events like Beard-a-Thon remind us that generosity and creativity go hand in hand. They celebrate the local businesses willing to dream up something different, the volunteers who say "why not?", and a community that's always ready to show up for a good cause.
That's our favorite kind of charity: a little weird, a lot of fun, and built by Denton, for Denton.
Because around here, if an idea makes people laugh, brings people together, and raises money for organizations doing important work... we're probably going to make it happen.
