Mazie’s Mission: To the Rescue and Beyond

Mazie’s Mission is a nonprofit veterinary clinic and hospital, based in Carrollton, Texas. The clinic exclusively serves homeless cats and dogs that are in the rescue system, by providing them with affordable, quality care. They treat a wide variety of illnesses, such as advanced skin disease, heartworm disease, parvo, distemper, and respiratory infections. They also treat traumatic cases, such as broken bones, and instances in which an animal has been hit by a car. While they treat more heartworm cases that anyone, in Texas, the most severe cases that they treat are skin diseases, such as mange.

Fostering Mentorship: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Denton

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nationwide non-profit that specializes in pairing children with adult mentors. The adults are matched with children after extensive background checks and are paired based on how their experiences match up with providing the best mentoring for a child. The motto for the charity is “Igniting Potential” where they seek to spark the ambition in every child.

Stop the Stigma: Addressing the Mental Health Needs of Denton

Formed in 2015, Stop the Stigma is a nonprofit organization with the mission of eradicating the stigma placed by society on mental health. As Vice President and Director Kade Anderson explained, Stop the Stigma is able to reach this mission by offering public mental health education and affordable professional counseling for residents of Denton county. The nationally recognized nonprofit organization has completed more than 1,000 counseling sessions since its inception with the support of volunteers and donors.
